Workshop titled “Mastering SPSS for Data Analysis” organized by IRP of Premier University.
A workshop titled “Mastering SPSS for Data Analysis: A Hands-on Training” was held on Tuesday (17 February 2026) at 2:30 PM at the GEC Circle campus of Premier University, organized by the Institute of Research and Publications (IRP) of Premier University.
The Chief Guest of the workshop was the University Registrar, Mr. Mohammad Iftekhar Monir. The Resource Person was Mr. Sudip Dey, Assistant Professor, Department of Economics. The session was chaired by Ms. Farzana Yesmin Chowdhury, Deputy Director of IRP and Assistant Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences. The workshop was moderated by Ms. Faria Hossain Barsha, Assistant Professor, Department of Economics. Faculty members from different departments of the university participated in the workshop.
In his speech, the Chief Guest, Registrar Mr. Mohammad Iftekhar Monir, said that the skill development gained by participants in today’s workshop would not only benefit their own work but would also contribute to advancing Premier University. He further noted that in today’s world, the importance of data-driven research is steadily increasing, and statistical analysis plays a crucial role in conducting quality research. Proficiency in modern software like SPSS makes researchers’ work easier, more accurate, and more acceptable. He added that such training workshops play an important role in improving the quality of research among faculty members.
In her remarks, the Chair, Ms. Farzana Yesmin Chowdhury, said that the purpose of this workshop was not only to provide knowledge but also to enable participants to independently and effectively apply this knowledge in their departmental work. She further stated that IRP is continuously working to enhance research capacity, and that hands-on training in data analysis is the primary objective of this workshop. She expressed hope that similar timely initiatives would continue in the future.
The Resource Person, Mr. Sudip Dey, in his presentation, demonstrated key aspects of SPSS software, including basic concepts, data entry and coding methods, data cleaning, variable management, descriptive statistics, correlation analysis, regression analysis, and hypothesis testing, through practical exercises. He emphasized that following proper methods in data management and analysis is essential to obtain accurate research results. While SPSS enables precise analysis, a sound understanding of its fundamentals and application skills is necessary. He noted that through this training, participants gained practical experience in using SPSS at different stages of research.
At the end of the training, participants expressed satisfaction with the workshop and hoped that such activities would be organized regularly.
